ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Blues add some brotherly love to their roster, completing moves this week to acquire siblings Mathieu Joseph and Pierre-Olivier Joseph.

On Tuesday, the acquired Mathieu Joseph in a trade Tuesday with the Ottawa Senators. On Wednesday, they signed his younger brother, Pierre-Olivier Joseph, to a one-year contract.

This will mark the first time that Mathieu and Pierre-Olivier have played on the same team at the NHL level.

It also carries on a rich history of brothers to play for the St. Louis Blues, most notably the Plager brothers (Bob, Barclay and Bill) in the early days of the franchise and the Sutter brothers (Brian, Rich, Ron) over parts of the 1980s and 1990s.

Mathieu, 27, is primarily a right-wing forward who specializes in defensive abilities, including his instincts on the penalty kill. He played in 72 regular-season games with the Senators last season, finishing with career-bests in points (35) and average ice time (16:28). Next season will be his seventh at the NHL level.

Pierre-Olivier, 25, is a defenseman who has spent his previous four NHL seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins. His career-bests in points (21) and hits (88) came during the 2022-23 NHL season. He would likely slot best as a third-pairing defenseman on the Blues.

As NHL free agency began Monday, the Blues also acquired defensive-minded forward Radek Faksa from the Dallas Stars and finalized a six-year contract extension with veteran forward Pavel Buchnevich. According to Puck Pedia, the Blues still have around $8 million in cap space to try and make additional moves for the roster.

Blues training camp will begin in September, while the the 2024-25 regular season begins on Oct. 8.
