CHICAGO – It’s Winter Classic Day in the Windy City on New Year’s Eve. The ultimate outdoor hockey showdown between the cross-state rival St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks is underway.
The Blues are pushing for their third Winter Classic win in three such contests. The Blackhawks are searching for their first-ever Winter Classic win in five such contests.
The game is being played at Wrigley Field, the longtime baseball home of MLB’s Chicago Cubs and the site of many spirited Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals matchups over a century-plus.
Before the game, Wrigleyville was packed as hockey fans gathered for the Winter Classic and the NHL PreGame Outdoor Fan Festival. Celebrations included plenty of interactive hockey exhibits, player cameos, and even a Stanley Cup appearance.
