ST. LOUIS – It took until the final buzzer of the regular season, but at long last, the St. Louis Blues have officially clinched a spot in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs!
The Blues punched their ticket to the playoffs with a decisive 6-1 victory over the Utah Hockey Club in their 82nd and final game of the 2024-25 regular season.
The Blues wrap up the regular season at 44-30-8 with 96 points for the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. St. Louis will play the President’s Trophy-winning Winnipeg Jets (55-22-4, 114 points) in the first round of playoffs.
The Blues put the finishing touches on a dramatic end to the regular season, boosted by a late-season franchise-best 12-game winning streak from mid-March to early-April.
The Blues bent, but didn’t break, in the final stretch after the historic winning streak. After dropping the first three of four scheduled games post-winning streak, all in which the Blues had an opportunity to clinch playoffs, St. Louis came through with a statement win Tuesday that slammed the door on any doubt.
The Blues jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead in the opening period, highlighted by top prospect Jimmy Snuggerud’s first NHL goal. It was a big night for the offense all around, as Snuggerud was one of seven Blues with multi-point nights in the regular season finale. Jordan Kyrou iced the victory with a pair of third-period goals.
And just like that, the Blues are back in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2022, ending a two-year playoff drought.
Robert Thomas led the team in scoring with 81 points, wrapping up his regular season with 21 goals and 60 assists. Thomas overcame an early-season injury for his second consecutive season of at least 80 points, the first Blues skater to accomplish that feat since Brett Hull in 1997.
Blues lead goaltender Jordan Binnington finished up his regular season with 28 wins, .900 save percentage, and a 2.64 GAA. It was also a season in which he broke the St. Louis Blues’ all-time goaltending wins record and helped Team Canada win a Gold Medal in the midseason 4 Nations Tournament.
Four Blues finished with perfect attendance (82 games in the regular season): Jordan Kyrou, Jake Neighbours, Brayden Schenn, and Ryan Suter.
Kyrou led the Blues with 36 regular-season goals and reached the 70-point plateau for the third time in his last four seasons. His growth defensively proved valuable down the stretch, as noticed by his career-best +23 plus-minus rating.
The Blues found their stride behind several fresh faces, including (but not limited to) savvy veterans Cam Fowler and Radek Faksa; offer sheet pickups Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg; and first-round picks Zac Bolduc and Jimmy Snuggerrud.
The 2024-25 season was also the second consecutive campaign with a coaching change. Jim Montgomery, a one-time Blues assistant coach, took over for Drew Bannister as head coach on Nov. 24, 2024, less than a week after he was fired as head coach of the Boston Bruins. Montgomery finished his first abbreviated regular season as Blues head coach with a 35-18-7 record.
The National Hockey League has not yet released playoff schedules, but the expectation is the Blues will open their playoff schedule on Saturday or Sunday on the road against the Winnipeg Jets.
