ST. LOUIS – There was a lot to cheer outside Enterprise Center Tuesday morning. Riders ready to brave their bikes with the St. Louis Blues on-hand to see them off on their three-day, 225-mile ride to Indianapolis.
“It’s definitely a very challenging training process, especially for us novice riders who’ve never written before, but we’re well trained. We have some great people who’ve helped us,” said Laura Foran, a member of Spokes of Strength, one of nine teams of Bristol Myers Squibb employees who are relaying cross-country for the Coast 2 Coast 4 Cancer Ride.
Her team is covering the St. Louis to Indianapolis leg, part of a nearly 3,000-mile, 27-day journey from Oregon to New Jersey. It’s all to raise funds for cancer research through The V Foundation.
“We’re so grateful to the Bristol Myers Script team for supporting The V Foundation. Cancer research is the way that we save lives, the way that we improve tours, the way that we put an end to this disease. Every time that we’re able to fund incredible research at institutions around North America, we’re getting one step closer to victory,” Rebecca Erquitt, The V Foundation, said.
The fight against cancer is one St. Louis Blues executive Chris Zimmerman says the organization is honored to support.
“Almost all of us have been touched. Someone close to us has had to fight the many different battles of cancer. The research we do, the work we do, is really critical,” he said. “I have the most personal story and, having lost my wife to pancreatic cancer, I’m so inspired by the riders who are getting out here and helping to raise more funds.”
