It is… not as serious a number, but still pretty serious.
Back on March 28, 2022, just ten days before Opening Day on April 7, the St. Louis Cardinals signed Albert Pujols to a one-year contract, allowing El Hombre to finish his career where he started: back in the ‘Lou.
His season got off to an unsurprisingly start. He was a solid bat off the bench, especially against left-handed pitching. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Pujols began his surge in the latter part of the season. From August 10 to September 23 Albert Pujols hit 12 home runs. His home run on August 30 against Ross Detwiler broke a Barry Bonds’ record as Detwiler became the 450th different pitcher to allow a homer a Pujols.
History was made again on September 23 in Los Angeles. Pujols hit home runs number 699 and 700 that evening, becoming the fourth player in Major League Baseball behind Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, and Barry Bonds, to reach the milestone.
Five days until pitchers and catchers report!
