A three run 12th inning propelled the Cardinals to a 7-4 extra inning victory over the first place Brewers on Tuesday night in Milwaukee, WI. Michael Siani broke a 4-4 tie with a two run single to left to give the Cardinals a 6-4 lead. Alec Burleson added a sac fly for the Redbirds seventh run.
Paul Goldschmidt was the hitting star for the Cardinals with three hits and three RBI including his 21st home run of the season. Steven Matz started his first game on the mound for the Cardinals since April 30th. He pitched four and two thirds innings allowing three runs but did strike out seven Brewers hitters.
The win moves the Cards to 11 games back of the Brewers. They remain five and a half games back of the Atlanta Braves for the final wild card playoff spot in the National League.
