ST. LOUIS – Following Monday’s shutout win on the road against the Washington Nationals, the St. Louis Cardinals’ social media team had a little fun at the hometown team’s expense.
At first glance, the team’s post on X (formerly known as Twitter) seems fairly innocuous, if a little silly: “Victory is ours! We drink from the keg of glory, bring us the finest muffins and bagels in all the land! #ForTheLou”
Astute TV viewers and pop culture enthusiasts of a certain age were keen to spot the reference to the D.C.-based political drama “West Wing,” which aired on NBC from 1999 to 2006.
The show deals with the inner workings of a fictional president, played by Martin Sheen, and White House senior advisors and staff.
The character Josh Lyman, played by Bradley Whitford, says the aforementioned quote in the second episode of the show’s inaugural season, titled “Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc.”
With Tuesday’s Cardinals-Royals game postponed due to the weather, we’re denied the possibility of getting a victory post referencing the films “Casino” or “Looper.”
