ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Cardinals and Diamond Sports Group have reached a new agreement to air local game broadcasts through FanDuel Sports Network Midwest for multiple years, the team announced Thursday.
The Cardinals say this agreement “will include a direct-to-consumer streaming option for fans within the extensive Cardinals TV territory.” This will involve a subscription process.
The agreement is for a new, multi-year linear and digital rights agreement. This allows Diamond Sports Group to carry on as the local broadcast provider of the St. Louis Cardinals through regional sports network FanDuel Sports Network Midwest, recently renamed from Bally Sports Midwest.
The Cardinals added that “pay TV customers” will be able to stream games and other programming on the FanDuel Sports Network app by authenticating with their pay TV credentials.
More information around direct-to-consumers subscriptions, including pricing, will be announced at a later date.
“We are pleased to enhance and expand our long-term partnership with Diamond and FanDuel Sports Network Midwest,” said Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III. “We valued the continuity for our fans of staying on the same network as the Blues, and we are excited that we will now be able to expand access to our games and other great Cardinals content across multiple platforms next year.”
This agreement comes after previous concerns this offseason that Diamond Sports Group could have dropped the Cardinals from its portfolio as Diamond Sports navigates bankruptcy proceedings.
The Cardinals’ previous TV rights deal was expected to pay the franchise $1 billion through 2032 and took effect when the RSN was known as FOX Sports Midwest under different ownership.
This is a developing story. FOX 2 will update as more information becomes available.
