Brendan Donovan Shines With a 3-5 Effort Despite the Result
The Redbirds dropped their second-to-last game of the season to the Giants earlier today 6-5.
The bats got going early for both teams, with Paul Goldschmidt starting scoring affairs with a sacrifice fly, scoring Masyn Winn. 1-0 Redbirds.
In the bottom half of the frame, Lamote Wade put San Francisco on the board, bringing in Mark Canha on a single to tie the game at 1.
Later that inning, former Marlin Jerar Encarnacion rolled an infield single to Masyn Winn, where Heliot Ramos came in to score to make it 2-1 Giants.
Things were quiet until the fourth inning, when Patrick Bailey singled to bring home Matt Chapman; 3-1 Giants.
Casey Schmitt later doubled to left, scoring Patrick Bailey to make it 4-1 San Fran.
The Cardinals began their comeback in the fifth, when Goldy grounded out to score Masyn Winn. 4-2 Giants.
In the sixth, Patrick Bailey drove in Chappy once again, this time on a sac fly to make it 5-2 Giants.
In the seventh, Brendan Donovan doubled home a pair, with Alec Burleson and Paul Goldschmidt coming home to score, making it 5-4 Giants.
The Cardinals eventually tied it up that half inning with a Jordan Walker single. Brendan Donovan scored. 5-5.
Brett Wisely gave the Gigantes the game-winning run in the eighth, scoring Tyler Fitzgerald to make it 6-5.
Andre Pallante had a solid start, going five innings and allowing three runs on seven hits, no walks, and four punchouts.
Chris Roycroft left the game with an injury, but went two-thirds of an inning and allowed a run on two hits and two walks.
Kyle Leahy pitched an inning and a third of scoreless ball, allowing no hits and no walks with one punchout.
Despite pitching well, Matthew Liberatore took the L but pitched a scoreless frame, allowing two hits and punching out two.
The Redbirds play their last game of the 2024 campaign tomorrow, with rookie Michael McGreevy (2-0, 2.40 ERA) taking on top prospect Hayden Birdsong (5-5, 4.66 ERA).
