PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Cardinals lost 8-4 to the Pirates Monday night in their first NL Central matchup of the season, ending their streak of nine straight games with double-digit hits. Brendan Donovan had three hits and Masyn Winn homered, but St. Louis managed just nine hits—one short of tying an MLB record.
Matthew Liberatore gave up four early runs but settled in to finish with seven strikeouts and no walks over 6 1/3 innings. Yohel Pozo homered in his return to the majors, but Pittsburgh pulled away with a four-run seventh inning.
