Cardinals hope to win their second series of the year.
This game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates feels more important than it actually is, but nonetheless it would be very nice to get back to .500 and win the second series of the year. It feels oh so very far from the opening series when they were 3-0 with a great run differential. It’s kind of the same story today as it was yesterday, just the two pitchers aren’t as good. Mitch Keller is probably a little better than Erick Fedde, but the Cardinals offense is a lot better than the Pirates offense.
Game Info: 11:35 AM CDT first pitch
Where to watch: FanDuel Sports Midwest
Where to listen: KMOX 1120/ 104.1 FM
Pitching matchup:
Erick Fedde (3.30 ERA/3.86 FIP/4.12 xFIP/3.91 xERA)
vs.
Mitch Keller (4.25 ERA/4.08 FIP/4.08 xFIP/4.31 xERA)
Players to Watch
STL: Wilson Contreras – Can he get off the hump. I think we can all agree on two things. That Contreras has looked terrible at the plate and that probably the worst way to fix that is to face Paul Skenes. Keller is still a tough pitcher, but he’s no Paul Skenes. One of these days, Contreras is going to show us the 120 wRC+ hitter he is. Hopefully that starts now.
PIT: Bryan Reynolds – If my theme was going to be struggling Pirates hitters, I could pick anybody in the lineup. But their probable best hitter is Reynolds. He has struggled and he did something yesterday we all hope Contreras does today, which is homer. Reynolds has traditionally struggled against the Cardinals, though those struggles seem more limited to at Busch Stadium, where he has a .637 OPS.
