The Morning Commute for Feb. 10, 2025.
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Charles Harris. You know, the former basketball player!
The story of Super Bowl LIX will be the titanic ass-kicking that happened on the field. You could also make the case that the Eagles beating the Chiefs 40-22 is the story of the night.
But let’s not lose sight of the fact that yet another Mizzou Tiger is now a Super Bowl champion! Nick Bolton was going for ring number three in his young career and seemed to have an early leg up after forcing an interception from Jalen Hurts early in the first half. But ultimately Hurts and the Eagles ran roughshod over the Chiefs’ defense while Charles Harris, former Mizzou D-line great, watched on as part of Philadelphia’s practice squad. And if his Instagram profile is any indication, he’s not letting that stop him from enjoying the moment.
Congrats, Mr. Harris!

The battle on the glass wasn’t the only aspect of the game that [Texas A&M coach Buzz] Williams complimented regarding Mizzou. As the Tigers remain at 17-6 overall and 6-4 in SEC play, the longtime coach had kind words for the man patrolling the other side of halfcourt.
“Coach Gates will be (SEC) Coach of the Year two out of his first three years in the SEC,” Williams said. “I think he may be the most underrated head coach in the country.”
Not many teams could play two top 10 teams within a total of 7 points, especially while getting lackluster performances from some of their best players. Things are still looking up for the Tigers.
Every remaining game is against a team below them in the standings, and only Alabama and Kentucky are ahead of them in KenPom. So it gets easier, but it’s still going to be a bear.
SEC Basketball Fever! Catch it!
The Tigers’ 69-59 win came courtesy of Grace Slaughter’s game-high 29 points. She finished the game 9-17 from the field, 3-6 from three, and made 8-8 from the charity stripe.
Time to get back above .500!
This week, Missouri triple jumper Jonathan Seremes earned votes for the 2025 Bowerman Watch List, which honors the “most outstanding” male and female track & field athletes. He’s only the third Tiger in program history to earn votes, and the first male.
“That’s okay, whatever,” jumps coach Iliyan Chamov said casually. “That doesn’t really bring any emotions or like, excitement to me.”
Ice in his veins… calves? Hamstrings?
“I really feel like we have an opportunity here in February to kind of cement ourselves as one of the top teams right there, and cement ourselves as a contender for what I’ll call the premiere session of the SEC Championships, which is that evening session with the top four teams,” Shannon said. “We’re sitting at fifth in the SEC right now, and we’re real close to number four.”
That’s a good start, coach! Karen will have a recap out today.
- Over at Rock M+, we’re talking about how this weekend’s SEC hoops action impacts Mizzou’s chances at a Top 4 slot in the SEC Tournament.
