The Morning Commute for Tuesday, April 1
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Mizzou Softball.
Despite handing previous No. 1 Oklahoma their first loss of the season back on Saturday, March 22nd, it has been a rather disappointing season for Mizzou Softball thus far considering the expectations.
Since their win over the Sooners, Mizzou had lost four in a row to drop to .500 overall (18-18) on the season including a Border War loss at home to kU.
Though Monday night on the SEC Network, Larissa Anderson’s team picked up a much-needed road win over a ranked Ole Miss team to avoid the sweep.

The Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the 1st highlighted by a GRAND SLAM from freshman Sophie Smith — her first career home run.
That’s a first career home run you’ll remember forever!! GRAND SLAM for @SophiegSmith22!!

The Rebels scored five runs off Marissa McCann in the bottom of the 2nd but were never able to tie it up, Cierra Harrison got the win, improving her record to 8-5 on the season.
In a 9-5 victory over Ole Miss, Mizzou improved to 19-18 (2-7 SEC) on the season. The Tigers will have work to do to keep their NCAA Tournament streak alive, but a home weekend series vs No. 1 Texas provides a massive opportunity.
First, the Tigers have an in-state midweek matchup with Missouri State on Wednesday night with the first pitch slated for 5:00 p.m. CST on SEC Network Plus.

“Listen, you’ve heard us plug Rock M+ a lot, and I get if you’re still on the fence. Let me tell you this, though: You’re not going to get better intel on Mizzou transfer business anywhere. On the internet. Period.”

“Consider this much, Missouri has swapped in one player after losing one to the portal. Jevon as a straight swap for Aidan Shaw makes some sense as he’s a little more polished offensively. Now to just figure out the guard rotation, and maybe bulk up around the rim?”
Another Porter is back in the fold for Mizzou.
“With the NCAA Tournament winding down, let’s check in on the ESPN Rock M Nation Bracket Challenge standings, shall we?
If you picked all No. 1 seeds to the Final Four, well, congrats on going all chalk!
“Now, my friends, it’s time for the regular season All-American honors, and what do ya know, the same Tigers who were honored last week are back at it again this week, with one new face amongst the group.”

“Between the opening statements, initial then breakout questions, Harper and athletic director Laird Veatch. Here are the top things we learned from the first impressions of Coach Harper as a Tiger.
Plenty of quotes and takeaways from Kellie Harper’s press conference. Rock M had it all covered.
Quick takeaways from Kellie Harper’s introduction:
– She is genuinely happy to be here
– Harper’s winning track record was big plus in the eyes of Veatch
– Especially with women’s hoops on the rise, Veatch & Co. felt like this was the right time to invest in MU WBB— Quentin Corpuel (@quentincorpuel) March 31, 2025
