The Morning Commute for Thursday, January 9
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about more Mizzou Basketball!
In a week where it would be extremely beneficial for Mizzou Hoops to go 2-0 for their NCAA Tournament hopes, Missouri passed their first test with relative ease in an 83-67 win over LSU on Tuesday night.
Not only was it their first SEC win since March 10th, 2023, but the good Tigers moved up seven spots to No. 37 in the latest NET rankings.
That’s one spot above their next opponent on Saturday, Vanderbilt.
#Mizzou’s win pushes it up to No. 37 in the NET. Vandy is just one spot back ahead of its visit on Saturday. pic.twitter.com/nc3FUFcs8H

And in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology update, Mizzou is currently the Last Team In the field — with Vanderbilt one spot above the Tigers.

Yes, it’s only early January, but Mizzou vs Vanderbilt on Saturday is looking like a key bubble matchup.

“A mock draft done by SBNation has Burden going number seven overall in this year’s draft, going to the New York Jets.”
It’s good to see Burden projected that high, but please not to the Jets!
“In conjunction with added experience and talent in the linebacking corps, Mizzou’s defense should be slated to see, at worst, a slight improvement on paper over last year’s pretty okay squad. If the Tigers want to win double digit games for an unprecedented third straight year, the defense will need to see that kind of improvement on the field as well.”
Plenty of great stuff from Nathan on Mizzou’s new-look secondary.
“Up next is another one of those games they should win, per the analytics: this Saturday they host Vanderbilt, #53 in KenPom and #38 in the NET.”
Take care of business on Saturday, Tigers.
