The Morning Commute for Tuesday, December 24
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about the latest on Mizzou Hoops.
Mizzou Basketball had an opportunity to jump into the AP Top 25 rankings with a win over Illinois on Sunday but ultimately fell short in the Braggin’ Rights game with an 80-77 loss.
Regardless, the Tigers are still receiving votes at 10 spots outside of the Top 25 — coming in at No. 35.
POLL ALERT: Tennessee, Auburn stay 1-2 in men’s AP Top 25 with 10 SEC teams; Kentucky drops to No. 10 after losing to Ohio State.

In the latest NET rankings, the Tigers dropped four spots to No. 45 in the country.
As the SEC winds down non-con play, 14 teams are in the top 50 of NET. Here are last week’s risers/fallers.

Mizzou is still receiving some respect from the national media, however. Andy Katz ranks the Tigers at No. 27 in his latest Power 37.
27. Missouri (Prev. 25, 10-2): The Tigers played well and nearly had a shot to beat Illinois in a classic Braggin’ Rights game.
In Jon Rothstein’s Top 45 — the Tigers come in at No. 37.

The Skinny: Going to have a dog in the SEC fight.
Prior to Braggin’ Rights, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi had Mizzou as one of the Last Four In.

We’ll see where the Tigers land in Lunardi’s next update. Mizzou returns to action on December 30th against Alabama State.
Then, it’s onto SEC play for Dennis Gates’ squad.

“On Sunday night, Mizzou “won” a big competition that had been heating up over the past few weeks.
Welcome to Mizzou, Beau Pribula!
New from me at @RockMNation — a breakdown of Ahmad Hardy, Mizzou’s new RB transfer https://t.co/2bgGtGooPp
— Dan Keegan (@keegsdotcom) December 23, 2024
“Hardy raises Mizzou’s floor for the starting running back position, relative to the unproven Lacey. He rounds out Mizzou’s starting offense and brings an exciting playmaking element to the table.”
Hardy looks to be another great get out of the transfer portal from the running back position.
“And Mose Phillips III? Has experience, has production, has multiple years of eligibility, and plays a style that fits Missouri’s safety corps. That’s a win!”
Virginia Tech transfer Mose Phillips III has all the makings to be a great fit for Mizzou.
“Missouri needed to overcome their rebounding disadvantage by playing to their strengths and they didn’t do it well enough to secure victory.”
Braggin’ Rights was a good game between two possible NCAA Tournament teams, but Mizzou fell just short against a better Illini team.
#Mizzou Volleyball gave Tigers fans an early Christmas present yesterday morning with the commitment of All-A10 middle blocker Trinity Luckett. More on the 6-2 SLU transfer and how she’ll fit into the team’s plans next year:@RockMNation https://t.co/tMp4kC4ncc

“Mizzou’s lineup looks complete with the addition of Luckett at middle blocker. The Tigers’ momentum from this season has carried over into a strong offseason, and the team again looks ready to compete at the top of the SEC.”
Good get from the Mizzou Volleyball program with the addition of Trinity Luckett.
