The Morning Commute for Thursday, February 6
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Mizzou diamond sports.
Believe it or not, it’s diamond sports season as Mizzou Softball starts their 2025 campaign on Friday in Clearwater, Florida at the NFCA Division 1 Leadoff Classic — with some games featured on the MLB Network.
Featured on @MLBNetwork for the first of two times this week‼️@CoachLarissaA and @CoachBella42 joined #MLBNHotStove this morning to discuss our season-opening @NFCAorg D1 Leadoff Classic including our Saturday showdown with Duke.

The Tigers are poised to have another successful year under head coach Larissa Anderson, and they will be featured on the ESPN networks seven times this season. Karen will have a preview for the February slate of games early this morning, so check it out.

Meanwhile, Mizzou Baseball starts their second year under head coach Kerrick Jackson next Friday in Puerto Rico. On Wednesday, the SEC Baseball preseason poll was released, and unsurprisingly, the Tigers were picked to finish last in the league.
#Mizzou Baseball has been picked to finish last in this year’s SEC preseason poll. The team garnered 31 votes, 29 fewer than Ole Miss in 15th. The team also did not have any players on the preseason All-SEC Team.@RockMNation pic.twitter.com/PPcvaB20yZ

It’s the fourth consecutive season the Tigers have been picked to finish last, but Gustafson mentions that they have at least exceeded expectations in the previous three years.
This marks the fourth consecutive season that #Mizzou has received the fewest votes in the SEC preseason poll. The good news: the Tigers have not finished last in the conference (despite projections) in any of the past three years.@RockMNation https://t.co/AUmsEKQYlW

Here’s hoping that the baseball program can be a little more competitive in Kerrick Jackson’s second season, but it will be an uphill climb as Javyn Pimental has been ruled out for the season due to Tommy John surgery.

“This past weekend, Brock got inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Quite honestly, it’s something that I just assumed had happened a long time ago, and as a member of the hall of fame (I know, not so humble a brag there, sorry) I say welcome to the club and well-deserved!”
A well-deserved honor from former Missouri Tiger great Brock Olivo!
“Right now, your Missouri Tigers are one of the best teams in the country.”
Despite the loss at Tennessee, this sentence is true.
#Mizzou has paved a path to a top-four seed in not just the SEC Tournament, but the NCAA Tournament as well.
That path can become a lot more clear with a win over No. 4 Tennessee. My preview of tonight’s contest in ol’ Rocky Top ⬇️https://t.co/VIC501N4lK

“While a blowout seems unlikely, a close win seems more reasonable.”
A tough loss for sure, but Mizzou went toe-to-toe on the road against an elite Tennessee team.

“Mizzou will return home for a clash with No. 10 Texas A&M on Saturday for the annual Rally for Rhyan game. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. CST.”
A bounce back game at home in the Rally for Rhyan game? I like the Tigers’ chances against the Aggies.
