Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz’s efforts to give a compliment to quarterback Brady Cook backfired in a big way this week.
Speaking to the media after his team’s win over South Dakota, Drinkwitz spoke glowingly about Cook for his performance. But he then tried to get a little personal and made a somewhat off-color joke about his young daughters:
“Everything that I ever wanted to know about Brady Cook he’s already told me.. he’s got a girlfriend or otherwise I’d be trying to get him hooked up w/ once my daughters turn 18,” Drinkwitz said.
Fans who know that Drinkwitz’s oldest daughter is 12 were put off by the comment. While most people probably know that he wasn’t trying to make an underage joke, that hasn’t stopped a lot more for admonishing him for being way too weird for comfort:
not only is he a dork..
he’s a fucking weirdo too. https://t.co/QBve3freoT

Eli Drinkwitz isn’t going to get in trouble with the school for making a comment like that, but he’s going to have a ton of people making the same jokes about him for a long time – possibly the rest of his career.
Choose your jokes more carefully everybody.
