For Mizzou? Just beat Georgia.
I feel like there’s at least one non-Mizzou connected SEC game each weekend that I want to be really dialed into, and then I check the schedule to see that Missouri is set to tip at roughly the same time. Today that game is the Iron Bowl on the hardwood, Alabama-Auburn.
Instead I’ll be tuned into Mizzou-Georgia. Watching a game on what might be the worst home court stain job in NCAA basketball. I don’t know if you’ve seen this court paint job yet, but it is… not great. Maybe it looks better in person but on TV it’s just so gray.
From an outsiders perspective there is some intrigue to the Tigers-Bulldogs matchup. Missouri is trying to keep pace with the top of the league in hopes of making a move towards a top 4 finish. They’re also within striking distance of a protected seed in the NCAA tournament. Georgia, meanwhile, is fighting to keep their tournament hopes a live, and a home win over a top 25 team would go a long way.
You can say that same thing across the SEC today. Kentucky is safely in and on the road facing a Texas team desperate for a big win. Mississippi State is still safe, but they’re really looking for a win after winning just three of their last 6 and Ole Miss (their opponent) is safely in. Arkansas still needs to collect wins and they have to travel to Texas A&M who is very safe. Vanderbilt could use a big win and they have to travel to Tennessee, who will be looking to avenge an earlier loss.
Then there’s South Carolina who are at Florida, and LSU who are at Oklahoma. OU needs a win, and LSU isn’t anywhere close to a bid right now. And yeah, South Carolina has been awful on the road. Good luck Gamecocks.
Then there’s the game to determine the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, as well as a foothold on the SEC top seed. Auburn versus Alabama. Pick your poison. I don’t particularly like either program, but I do like the O/U on this game is 172.5. OFFENSE IS BACK, BABY!
The Tigers, if they can take care of business today, can continue to climb the ladder on this season. So as we all want to say, beat Georgia.
