There’s a ton of good basketball on, unfortunately Mizzou will not be playing.
It’s March so that means we’re disappointed, at some point every fan base has this feeling during the month of March (and early April) except for one.
I’ll put together a Study Hall kind of looking at the two days and probably publish it when ready. But Mizzou fell to Florida last night, in a way that was none-all-too-surprising. The Gators are #2 in the country, and Missouri went into Gainesville and whipped them back in January. The Tigers were also holding out Mark Mitchell as a precautionary measure over a knee injury, which is a smart move. Missouri played a physical basketball team last night, the Gators were rested… and so Florida jumped all over Mizzou from the tip.
It was 10-0 and the Tigers had only attempted a single shot. They were down 14 after barely more than 8 minutes had been played, and the Gators were hot. Mizzou didn’t pack up and go home, they stayed and fought. A 13 point halftime lead was whittled down to 5 on two occaisions, but Florida had an answer. Even moreso after Josh Gray fouled out, Dennis Gates gambled on a smaller lineup being able to outscore the Gators and he gambled wrong. The Gators bulled Mizzou on the glass in that stretch, and prevented easy looks at the rim and extended the lead back up ending the game.
Any dream of an SEC Tournament title likely goes out the window when Mizzou slipped out of the top 4. The goal for the tournament was to get a win and get a few key guys going and looking and playing better. Tony Perkins, Anthony Robinson, and Tamar Bates all had big stretches of excellent play. With Mark Mitchell back Missouri could be a real problem.
We’ll find out where they’re going tomorrow at 5pm!
As for the games today, it’s a good day for College Basketball. The SEC Tournament hits the semi-final stage and it’s chalky. Auburn-Tennessee, and Florida-Alabama starting at noon.
The Big 10 semi-finals also start at noon with Wisconsin-Michigan State, and then Michigan-Maryland. The Big 12 Finals starts at 5 with Houston taking on Arizona.
Enjoy the day, people. It’s almost NCAA Tournament time.
