The Morning Commute for January 13, 2025.
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about why having good players makes your team better.
Just a quick plug for a conversation happening over on Rock M+, where Watkins posted some of Evan Miya’s latest numbers on individual play during the 2024-2025 season. I won’t spoil who, but two of Mizzou’s current players are on track to have better individual seasons than any single Mizzou Tiger since Miya started tracking individual performances back in 2012. I’ll leave it to you to figure out who the top two are… or you could just subscribe to Rock M+ and find out (and then join the conversation!)
To sum it up using the words of one of our subscribers:
Two top 30 players? That’ll play.

Enjoy! It might be a bit of a lighter edition, as I’m also working on Gym stuff, and while we still had a lot of content, we’re not putting out as much now that football season is over. I’ve included a couple things that are a few weeks old, as last week was Olympic sports only, and the week before was a Writer’s Choice for the year.
Lighter edition or not, The Digest is the absolute best place to catch up on all things Mizzou Sports on the internet. No kidding!
“You don’t get a chance to hang your head. You don’t get a chance to feel sorry,” Pingeton said. “I think it tells you a lot about your character and how you show up every day…we got to get back up, put our shoulders back…we want to soldier on, and so I’m sure we’re all excited to get back to work [at practice] on Tuesday.”
It might be a long winter, y’all.
The good thing about a tough schedule is that Mizzou will likely have a lot of opportunities for Quad 1 wins, which often get brought up as one of the first qualifiers for a bid to the NCAA Tournament. As of now, the Tigers have 10 more opportunities for to earn such victories. The (potential) bad news is that too many losses in those games could leave Mizzou out of the tournament, especially because recent history says so.
Hey, just go .500 in league play and you’re in! Easy as that, right?
SEC triple jump champion (and J-School grad) Euphenie Andre proved her sights are set higher and farther than last season. Andre casually broke the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse record, jumping a personal best 13.49m. Her mark topped Tiger alum Arianna Fisher, who placed second and holds the indoor program record at 14.06m.
LMAO SHE ALSO GRADUATED FROM THE J-SCHOOL WHILE DOING ALL THAT?!
The Tigers’ 2-7 start is the program’s worst since the 1970-71 season, when the team also began with a 2-7 record under head coach Hap Whitney. Mizzou finished that season 5-9-1 and placed sixth at the Big Eight Championships.
It physically hurt me to copy-paste that.
- Over at Rock M+, we’re talking about the budgets Mizzou is up against when fighting for remaining transfer commits. Spoiler alert: Being rich and good is tough to beat.
$4 million for each of the 12 teams that makes the College Football Playoff
$4 million for each of the 8 teams that makes the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals
$6 million for each of the 4 teams that makes the College Football Playoff Semifinals
$6 million for each of the 2 teams that makes the College Football Playoff National Championship Game
