The Tigers look to secure their first 2-0 over an opponent all season, after previously failing against Vanderbilt and Arkansas.
First Half
- The Sooners are rolling as Sam Godwin has two more points than the entire Mizzou team with eight, as he is perfect from the field. 12-6 Oklahoma with 15:12 remaining in the half.
- Mitchell with a beautiful take and then drains a three from the following possession, but Oklahoma is dominating the glass. At one point rebounds were five to zero in favor of the Sooners, but Warrick has just hit a three that has reduced a 14-6 game to a 16-14 game for the Sooners. Warrick then absorbs some contact and puts up a nice drive, to tie the game. BANG! Grill hits a three from way out and just like that, the Tigers have the lead. However Mitchell’s three has been downgraded to a two, so it is 18-18 Mizzou with 11:30 left.
- Oklahoma is on a 9-0 run to begin this TV timeout after Crews got a quick inbounds bucket, the Sooners repeatedly attacking the inside after Gray picked up two very early fouls. The Tigers have lost their offensive touch that was working for them so well in the last frame, it’s 27-21 Oklahoma with two free throws pending and 7:55 left in the half.
- This is probably one of the worst halves Mizzou has put in all season, as the Sooners and Godwin are all over them right now. Oklahoma has scored on five consecutive offensive possessions, and this one is 37-25 Sooners with just over six minutes left in the half.
- TO Barrett is on the floor to generate a spark, and does a beautiful blow by followed by a steal to setup +3 on the board for the Tigers, but Fears hits a triple and the Sooners convert a two to erase that momentum right where it came from. 42-28 Sooners at the final TV timeout of the half.
- Just dominant play on the post from the Sooners, and this marks the third straight road game where the Tigers are getting manhandled on the glass. Oklahoma is shooting above 75% in this game so far, absolutely dominant display on offense and this is akin to the kind of offensive explosions Mizzou is used to handing visitors. Warrick misses a buzzer-beating three, and it’s clear which team really needs the win tonight. Oklahoma leads 50-37 at halftime.
Second Half
- Sam Godwin limped off the court in the middle of the first half and is out for the rest of the game, so that’s a huge advantage for the Tigers. However they begin the first half with a brutal inbounds turnover, and the Sooners get an easy bucket. The Tigers were looking for a good start to this half to claw back, but unfortunately it is the Sooners who have come out more prepared. Crews hits a three to give the bench some life, and the Tigers really need to dig deep on defense. Crews follows up with an absolutely gorgeous turn around bucket, and now the Tigers have some life. 57-45 Oklahoma with 15:23 left.
- It’s just not materializing for Mizzou, as they have been held scoreless since the last TV timeout and have no life on offense. Oklahoma was bound for a regression to the mean this half and it happened, but the Tigers have not retaliated on offense to take advantage. To make matters worse, Barrett picks up a flagrant one foul and sends Fears to the line for two more. Pierce breaks the drought with a big time three-pointer, but the Tigers will need a lot more than that. Mitchell gets two nice takes to the basket after Northweather hits a DEEP three for the Sooners. Sooners get a bucket and a trip to the foul line, it is 68-52 Oklahoma with 10:08 left.
- GRILL with a big-time three, and it’s now a 12-point game with 9:14 left. Robinson picks up his fourth foul on a careless play, BATES, he hits another and the game is a nine-point deficit now. Foul from Gray on Wague in the post and he’ll have two shots after the TV Timeout. 69-60 Oklahoma with 7:51 left.
- Wague hits both the free throws, but Perkins goes for a big slam but lays it in in the process. Pierce misses a big kick out three that was wide open, and all of the sudden Oklahoma has a chance to go up 15. GRILL! Hits it from DEEP, and it is now 77-69 Oklahoma. This team just keeps fighting, and is keeping this game in surmountable territory. Fears is fouled on the drive, the Tigers are just leaking free throws. 80-71 Oklahoma with 3:46 left.
- After a seemingly endless array of fouling, the Tigers were unable to get a series of stops. For the third straight road game they have allow 90+ points, as they fall to Oklahoma 96-84.
