Live updates from a top-15 throwdown in Columbia.
First Half
- Starters for Mizzou: Anthony Robinson II, Tony Perkins, Tamar Bates, Mark Mitchell, Josh Gray
- This place is PACKED. Student section is completely full.
- Rough start for the Tigers early, as Texas A&M opens the game on a 7-0 run. Mizzou is 0-for-4 from the field.
- Cody Schrader is here. “Cody! Cody! Cody!” chants just broke out.
- Tamar Bates knocks down a corner three-pointer, and Mizzou has its first points of the game with almost six minutes gone in the first half. 12-3 Texas A&M.
- Zhuric Phelps is having a heckuva the start. He’s already up to seven points as Texas A&M leads 18-7 at the under-12 timeout. His last bucket was a sweet layup through contact. He’s been everywhere for the Aggies so far.
- Jacob Crews. The igniter! Three consecutive triples pull Mizzou within two. That crowd pop might’ve been the loudest I’ve heard over the past two seasons.
- Game is tied at 20 with 7:56 left in the first half. Mitchell has made a couple of baskets in a row following Crews’ heat-check.
- Texas A&M has been killer on the glass, which was to be expected. Aggies leading 14-7 in rebounds, including six offensive boards.
- Texas A&M leads 32-22 with 3:28 remaining in the first half. Mizzou hasn’t converted a field goal in almost five minutes. The Aggies have done a fantastic job sticking to Caleb Grill, who’s been open for about five seconds the entire first half.
- This game has been sprinkled with a bit of a football vibe, especially on the glass. Physicality has been sky-high late in the first half.
- HALFTIME: Texas A&M 38, Mizzou 29. The Aggies have built a solid lead with ridiculous physicality and stellar interior scoring (12/20 on two-pointers). Tigers didn’t score from the field over the final 8:13 of the half. A&M is up 19-12 in rebounding.
Second Half
- Crews starts the second half. He takes Trent Pierce’s spot in the starting lineup.
- Phelps and Wade Taylor IV both have three fouls with 17:07 left in the second half. Less than ideal for the Aggies.
- Mizzou with a great start to the second half, cutting the A&M lead to 46-41 with 15:19 left in the second half. Tony Perkins has gotten going on the offensive end, which is encouraging for the Tigers. Him and Mitchell have scored each of MU’s 12 points to start the second half.
- Marcus Allen checks into the game for the first time with 13:26 left
- Texas A&M still leads, this time 49-43. Mizzou is on another field goal drought, as this one has lasted almost three minutes. Luckily for the Tigers, the Aggies also haven’t converted a field goal in three minutes of action.
- WHITE MEN CAN JUMP
- Taylor IV picks up his fourth foul with 10:04 left
- Mizzou Arena is on fire again. A steal-and-slam by Bates ties the game at 49 with 9:41 left.
- Allen puts Mizzou ahead 51-49 on a tough layup through contact
- Mizzou leads 56-51, as Taylor IV has to burn a timeout after getting trapped along the sideline. Cannot overstate how loud this crowd has been today.
- Lead has shrunk to 58-57. Besides the out-of-bounds turnover, Allen has given Mizzou some awesome minutes here in the second half.
- Taylor IV gives A&M the lead back with a tough floater
- That’s four fouls on Josh Gray. 63-60 A&M with 1:43 left.
- Didn’t think a fadeaway two-pointer by Crews was on the menu, but here we are
- TAMAR TOUCHING THE SKY
- Andersson Garcia goes 1-for-2 at the line. Bates misses a long two-pointer. A&M ball, tied at 64 with 9.8 seconds left.
- Wade Taylor IV. Onions. 67-64 A&M with 1.8 seconds left.
- FINAL: Texas A&M 67, Mizzou 64. A double-clutch halfcourt shot by Caleb Grill misses wide, and the Tigers drop their second straight close contest to a top-10 SEC team. Bates, Crews and Mitchell combined for 42 points. Oklahoma up next.
