The Tigers won one match and saw the Cowboys consistently pile on the bonus points
Mizzou Wrestling was handed its second largest loss of the season Sunday by third-ranked Oklahoma State in Stillwater, falling 36-3 against the Cowboys. The Tigers lost nine of 10 matches.
Let’s break down the action.
All rankings are according to InterMat.
125lbs: #4 Troy Spratley (OKST) over #31 Gage Walker (MIZ), 10-1 Major Decision
After both wrestlers spent most of the opening period feeling each other out, Spratley struck first by using his speed to get around Walker for a takedown. Walker fought to get out but Spratley was too tough on top, riding out the first period and going to bottom.
Walker looked strong on top in the first half of period two, but Spratley worked his way into a reversal and again rode out the period. With Walker starting on bottom in the third, Spratley rode just long enough to pass the minute mark in riding time before letting the freshman up.
Walker held him off for over a minute before being penalized for stalling, and Spratley secured the major decision with a quick double leg shot off the restart. Walker has been solid this season but likely has a ceiling on how far he can go at the NCAA Championships, struggling to score against top ranked opponents – at least this season.
Mizzou: 0 – Oklahoma State: 4
133lbs: NR Reece Witcraft (OKST) over NR Kade Moore (MIZ), 6-3 Decision
Witcraft took the opening lead with a little over a minute left in period one, getting in on a single leg shot and tripping Moore for the takedown before riding out the period. Moore got up and out quickly to start period two, but Witcraft went back on the attack with a duck under and single leg.
He slammed Moore to the mat for his second takedown, letting Moore up for another escape to search for more points. Witcraft couldn’t generate any more offense and he went to bottom to begin the final period.
Moore rode tough, getting his leg in while trying to work for a turn multiple times, but was unable to create any scoring in between stalemates. He ended up riding out the period and adding his final point when Witcraft was penalized for stalling.
Witcraft is a strong wrestler, ranked 13th in the coaches poll weight class rankings, but the fact that he cut Moore to try and score more takedowns is telling. Moore displayed a tantalizing glimpse of his former self last week but has seen his struggles from most of the season return on this weekend’s road trip.
Mizzou: 0 – Oklahoma State: 7
141lbs: #14 Josh Edmond (MIZ) over NR Kolter Burton (OKST), 11-4 Decision
Edmond got on the board early with his signature double leg, holding on as Burton tried to roll out and securing the takedown. Burton scored a quick escape and Edmond went back to his main attack, getting close to another score multiple times in the period but failing to finish the takedowns after nice defense by Burton.
Burton rode tough to begin period two with multiple mat returns, but Edmond added to his lead with a reversal. Burton scored another quick escape, the final scoring of the period, then headed to bottom to begin the third.
Burton got out quickly, pulling within a takedown of the lead, and went on the attack. After a stalemated shot, he went for a single which Edmond easily avoided and countered to get around for the takedown.
Edmond let Burton up leading by four and surged forward for a low double leg shot in the final seconds, scoring the takedown to reach double digits and punctuating the comfortable victory. He maintained a defensive stance for most of the third period but seemed to be more aggressive today after the last second loss at Oklahoma last night.

Mizzou: 3 – Oklahoma State: 7
149lbs: #17 Carter Young (OKST) over NR Logan Gioffre (MIZ), 11-4 Decision
Young shot often and early, getting his first takedown off a single leg shot and quickly scoring another near the edge of the mat after letting Gioffre up off a restart. Gioffre escaped again on another restart, 6-2, and Carter had an ankle pick late but couldn’t finish before the buzzer ended period one.
Gioffre escaped from bottom in the second after an early stoppage for blood, then Young went back to shooting and got around for another takedown, bringing Gioffre to the mat and riding out the period.
Gioffre rode for a little over 30 seconds to start the final period before Young escaped, and Young nearly scored another takedown by getting behind Gioffre but they went out of bounds before he could score. Young added a bonus point for riding time, which would have secured him the major decision, but he was penalized for a technical violation in the match’s final seconds.
Mizzou: 3 – Oklahoma State: 10
157lbs: #12 Caleb Fish (OKST) over NR James Conway (MIZ), 5-1 Decision
Conway scored the first point of the match with an escape to start the second period following three minutes of limited action in period one. His escape was the only point in the middle frame, though he was warned for stalling.
Fish quickly tied up that match in the final period with an escape from bottom, then scored the match’s first and only takedown by using his strength to get behind Conway. He rode out the period, adding a bonus point for riding time. Fish was the better wrestler on the mat today, though Conway did a solid job of holding him off until the final period.
Mizzou: 3 – Oklahoma State: 13
165lbs: #6 Cam Amine (OKST) over #15 Cam Steed (MIZ), 2-1 Decision
This match was scoreless after the first as both wrestlers tried out a few moves with low effectiveness, though Steed was warned for stalling near the edge with 30 seconds remaining. Amine headed to bottom, and Steed had some solid mat returns in the opening minute as he rode in period two.
Steed picked up another stall call, giving Amine a point, with 37 seconds left, and allowed a costly escape in the final 15 seconds of the period to trail by two entering the final frame. Steed nearly scored a massive reversal in the second period before the two wrestler went out of bounds, giving him the escape to make it 2-1.
But Amine rode for long enough to get Steed’s riding time under a minute. Steed made a last minute push but couldn’t secure the takedown he needed, falling to the three time All-American and former national semifinalist in a narrow decision. Steed loses this one but made a strong case to be considered a dark horse for All-American.
Mizzou: 3 – Oklahoma State: 16
174lbs: #3 Dean Hamiti (OKST) over NR Joel Mylin (MIZ), 20-4 Tech Fall
This was pure domination from the start, with Hamiti scoring a takedown in the opening 30 seconds and continuing to let Mylin up until he scored two more takedowns and a four point nearfall in the opening frame.
Mylin started the second period on bottom and was warned for stalling before being let up. He took a shot, which Hamiti easily countered for a takedown, and let Mylin up again. Hamiti went for a high single leg shot and won the scramble for his final takedown and the tech fall.
Mizzou: 3 – Oklahoma State: 21
184lbs: #3 Dustin Plott (OKST) over NR Aeoden Sinclair (MIZ), 18-7 Major Decision
This match went how you would expect when a three time All-American and returning national finalist faces a talented but inexperienced freshman early on, with Plott scoring two takedowns in the opening period and adding a point when Sinclair was penalized for stalling. He also rode tough in this frame, getting Sinclair on his back briefly at one point and riding out the period.
Plott went to bottom to begin period two and scored a reversal when Sinclair attempted a mat return. The freshman was penalized again for staling before being let up, then Plott won a scramble off a high single leg shot for a takedown before riding out the period again.
Sinclair was let up to start the third period by Plott, and Sinclair came out with newfound aggression. The tactic initially backfired, as he went for a low ankle pick but Plott won the scramble for another takedown. After letting Sinclair up, one takedown away from a tech fall, he went for a low single leg shot.
But Sinclair came out on top this time in the scramble, scoring his first takedown and the Tigers’ first takedown since Josh Edmond’s match at 141lbs. Sinclair let Plott up quickly, choosing to wrestle him straight up in the final 30 seconds. Neither wrestler scored, but Sinclair prevented Plott from getting the tech fall.
His decision to continue wrestling aggressively was also impressive and shows the young phenom has a strong mindset which should set him up for success down the road. He’s been extremely impressive against some stout competition this season and left a solid impression in the final period. This was Sinclair’s final match before the staff shuts him down for the year to preserve his redshirt.
Mizzou: 3 – Oklahoma State: 25
197lbs: #7 Luke Surber (OKST) over NR Jesse Cassatt (MIZ), 22-6 Tech Fall
Surber took the upper hand from the start, scoring a takedown off a double leg shot right after the whistle started the opening period. He cut Cassatt and scored two more takedowns before the end of the first frame.
Cassatt went to bottom to begin the second and was immediately let up as Surber added his fourth takedown. He continued the cycle of scoring a takedown and cutting Cassatt through the rest of the second period until he reached the tech fall. Surber scored seven takedowns in total and added a point off of a stalling penalty on Cassatt.
Mizzou: 3 – Oklahoma State: 30
285lbs: #3 Wyatt Hendrickson (OKST) over #24 Jarrett Stoner (MIZ), Victory by Fall (0:53)
Hendrickson attacked early, scoring a quick takedown and getting Stoner on his back for a two point nearfall which was close to becoming a pin. Leading 5-0, he continued to work on top and again secured a cradle. He got the pin this time, ending the dual’s final match in only
Hendrickson scores a quick takedown and gets Stoner on his back for two nearfall, gets close to a pin. He continues to work on top and gets the cradle again, securing the pin this time in the opening minute.
Mizzou: 3 – Oklahoma State: 36
Mizzou is now 5-9 this season and 4-3 in the Big 12 with one match remaining. The Tigers will also look much different for that contest with key starters Keegan O’Toole and Colton Hawks expected to return at 174lbs and 184lbs, respectively.
Tiger Style’s final regular season dual will take place February 22 against Iowa State in Columbia. Action at the Hearnes Center will start at noon, and the match will be streamed on UFC Fight Pass.
