The Morning Commute for Wednesday, March 5th
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about the NFL Scouting Combine which took place in Indianapolis last week.
In case you missed it (and I admittedly didn’t follow along in real-time myself), several Tigers made some very favorable impressions.
NFL.com’s Nick Shook had a great recap here and he included three Tigers on his all-combine offense.
Offensive tackle Armand Membou ran a 4.91-second 40-yard dash and gained attention for his loud scream during the run. His time was second-best among all linemen at the combine, and it appears he’s turned himself into a consensus top-15 day one pick.
Surely that will only help in the big recruiting battle with the highly-sought after lineman recruit Jackson Cantwell?
True Son QB Brady Cook might have been a surprise invitee for some to the combine, but he capitalized and turned heads with an impressively athletic display. According to Shook, he looked better than all the other QBs who threw in Indy, and he also had the top results among all QBs who tested in every single individual drill. Maybe Brady moved himself into contention to be a late-round selection?
Lastly, Luther Burden III made Shook’s all-combine team due to a consistent, clean and smooth showing in his route running. It didn’t hurt that he clocked a 4.41 40-yard dash, either.
This year’s NFL Draft is set for April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisc.

My biggest mistake was limiting the format of this piece to just five players. Now that I’m on transfers, I found it very hard to trim the list down to five, because I’m that in love with this class.
You’ll have to read the list because I think you’ll be surprised at a couple of names who DON’T make Mr. Keegan’s top five list!
- Nate Edwards had his postmortem breakdown of the Tiger wide receivers in 2024 right here…
The 2024 Missouri receiving corps is one of those college football mysteries that we’ll most likely never fully understand. Despite the fact that they returned 100% of 2023’s production, every receiver not named Theo Wease regressed in yards, catch rate, success rate, or all three.
It was an interesting breakdown, as Nate opines that last year’s group was collectively one of the best in recent program history, yet they just weren’t able to produce at the expected level…
Turns out, losing on the road in overtime to an NCAA Tournament Vanderbilt team didn’t do much harm to Missouri in the latest rankings. After a 1-1 week, Mizzou slipped one spot to No. 15 in the AP Top 25 poll that was released on Monday. The Tigers slipped three spots to No. 19 in the coaches’ poll, however.
The men’s team has a couple of important games this week – Wednesday at Oklahoma and Saturday at home against Kentucky – that will go a long way in determining their ultimate seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament…
At Robin Pingeton’s final press conference, she and Ashton Judd embraced as Judd said how much Pingeton meant to her. Judd, a player of several years for MU, was recruited by Pingeton and said the coach was the only one who “bet on her.”
Even though the time had come to move on, it’s still tough to see a long-time fixture in the department move on. That’s life in big-time college athletics though, very few head coaches of any sport get to go out the way they choose…
