Robin Pingeton talks here to her budding star, Grace Slaughter, who went off for 31, including the game-winner against SEC foe Mississippi State.
2. Bench Mob

The Missouri bench runs to celebrate Grace Slaughter after she hit the game-winning shot over Mississippi State on Monday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Mizzou Arena. (Cal Tobias/Rock M)
This was the Missouri bench’s immediate reaction to the big win. Every player, from De’Myla Brown in the middle to Abbey Schreacke all the way on the right, in a state of ecstasy. And of course, #1 hype woman Hannah Linthacum in the back!
3. Dawg Pile

Mizzou players embrace Grace Slaughter after she hit the game-winning shot over Mississippi State on Monday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Mizzou Arena. (Cal Tobias/Rock M)
After the game winner, the team dog-piled on Slaughter in the paint. The Mizzou Arena folks decided to screw with the lighting and turn everything red, but the picture came out okay.
4. “Slaughterhouse”

“Welcome to the Slaughterhouse!” proclaims Missouri guard Abbey Schreacke, left, after Grace Slaughter, center, hit the game-winning shot over Mississippi State on Monday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Mizzou Arena. (Cal Tobias/Rock M)
Grace Slaughter slid in front of the camera for her postgame interview after her game-winning shot. As she began her interview, Abbey Schreacke (left) jumped in, proclaiming, “Welcome to the Slaughterhouse!”
Maybe this will become a cool nickname for Mizzou Arena one day. After all, Mizzou’s own Adam Busack helped rename Boston College’s stadium a while back…
5. Coach & Player

Two Missouri basketball legends are seen here; game-winning shot taker Grace Slaughter, and local coach and Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inductee Greg Logsdon.
6. Off Duty

Missouri head men’s basketball coach Dennis Gates eats Mike & Ikes while watching the women’s team play Tennessee during the second half of a game against Tennessee on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Mizzou Arena. (Cal Tobias/Rock M)
Of what we know about Dennis Gates— he’s from Chicago, went to school at Berkeley, used to coach Cleveland State— we don’t know his favorite candy. But now we have a fairly strong guess, as we saw him on the sideline enjoying some Mike & Ikes while watching the game vs. Tennessee on Sunday. Gates can oftentimes be found at the women’s games when they don’t conflict with his own team’s schedule.
7. What’d I do?

Missouri guard Averi Kroenke (21) awaits the call after she shoved over a Vol during the second half of a game against Tennessee on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Mizzou Arena. (Cal Tobias/Rock M)
After every single basketball player of all time commits a foul, they love looking over at the ref to protest and look confused. Here, Averi Kroenke looks over after she shoved over a Lady Vol player. Tennessee went to the free-throw line 24 times, scoring on 18 of those attempts.
8. Do As I Do

Missouri head coach Robin Pingeton shouts to her team during a game against Tennessee on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at Mizzou Arena. (Cal Tobias/Rock M)
Pingeton seemed to believe that her players forgot how to play defense, as she mimed it out to them across the court. Her team turned over the ball 24 times during the game but held Tennessee to 76 points, which is honestly not that bad against the high-powered Vol offense that has been known to score in the triple digits.
9. No Way Out

Missouri point guard De’Myla Brown (1) is defended by two Vols during a game against Tennessee on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at Mizzou Arena. (Cal Tobias/Rock M)
Undersized guard De’Myla Brown found herself trapped between two taller Tennessee defenders in the second half and had no way out. This scene repeated itself many times over the course of the game as the Tigers were not able to counter UT’s fullcourt press.
10. Out of reach

(Cal Tobias/Rock M)
This one was kind of a happy accident; I left my long lens on my camera while action was happening right next to me. Still, it made an interesting picture, as UT’s Zee Spearman and MU’s Angelique Ngalakulondi both lost this loose ball in the first half.
