It’s been a rough 24 hours for Missouri athletics. On Sunday morning, one of their starting defenders was arrested and subsequently suspended.
According to Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Tigers linebacker Chad Bailey was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated this morning, per the Boone County Sheriff Department. The 23-year-old linebacker was reportedly booked at 2:46 a.m. local time and released on $500 bond.
Per the report, Bailey has been suspended by the Missouri football team in the hours since his arrest.
Bailey was pulled over at 1 a.m. local time near the University of Missouri campus in Columbia. The stop was for an expired license plate and lane violation. However, Bailey then told the officer he had consumed alcohol and then “performed poorly on a field sobriety test,” per the police.

Chad Bailey is heading into his sixth year with Missouri and served as a team captain this past season. He ended the year as the team’s No. 3 tackler with 57 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in 11 games. The Tigers finished the season 6-7 with a loss to Wake Forest in the Gasparilla Bowl.
This could very well mark the end of Bailey’s time in Missouri if his suspension is made indefinite – or worse, he gets kicked off the team.
Has Bailey played his final down for Missouri?
